Nevada City -yes it’s in California- is an amazingly well-preserved gold rush era town surrounded just outside of the Tahoe National Forest. While parts of it are still frozen in time, the character of the town has a distinctly Bay Area vibe thanks to the many artists and restaurateurs who have relocated there in the past few decades. We discovered Nevada City on our road trips into the Sierra Nevada mountains, and quickly fell in love. We’re not alone either. Believe it or not, it’s been a featured destination in Sunset Magazine, and it’s a well-known vacation spot in Northern California.
